How to verify a webstarts site using google webmaster tools?

If you are using cPanel (Or have access to all your files using a FTP program such as FileZila), If so. Read on.

#1. Open up Index.html (Or your main website homepage) in a text editor.

#2. You will be given a META TAG or .HTML file by google to verify your website.

#3. If you use the META TAG place the code given to you, place it before the end of </head>, Example below.

<html>
<head>
<title>Your Website Title</title>

<YOUR GOOGLE META TAG HERE>

</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>

#3b. If you decide to use the .HTML file to verify your site you must upload that file given to you by google by uploading it to your web host. (To Public_HTML). You can do this by cPanel or a FTP file manager.

#4. Once you have done any of the two above, Go back to "Google WebmWebmaster Tools" and click "Verify"

Go to http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/
Click: Sign in to webmasters tool using your google account
or create a google account by signing up
Click on ‘adding a site’. Google offers 2 methods : (1) Meta Tag (2) HTMl method. Select the HTML method because its simpler and then save the file as specified by google, for example, ‘google11e5844324b7354e.html’ using a program like notepad. Upload this file to the root of your website and then go back and click on ‘verify’. Your website will immediately be verified.
